#10

Does my CP rely on the money or services provided by any public entity?

Yes! Each teacher relies on the budget given every year as well as the volunteering from the parents.  When the parents volunteer in the classroom, it seems that more gets done because there are more bodies helping clean or set up.  The school budget is cut every year and that affects each teacher and also the students.  With the budget getting smaller and smaller, the education of the students is begin put more at risk because not every student is being focused on and some are slipping by.

Does my Cp involve the prison system in any way?

Not necessary does she involve the prison Other than the annual Say No To Drugs talk that the LAPD does every year at every elementary school, the systems is in no way involved with her or her classroom.

Does my CP get caught in conflict relating to its various local and state relationships?
Other than trying to prevent the budget cut, my CP doesn't get involved with state or local problems.  She tends to only get involved only when she knows that something will affect her personally.  And not just her; other teachers do it too.  They are simply looking out for themselves.  Teachers are underpaid for the kind of work they do and even though they are underpaid, some of these people live paycheck to paycheck and that paycheck is probably only form teaching.

Has my Community Partner sought or encouraged any legislative changes?
The teachers of LAUSD have been protesting the budget for years.  They protest the budget because the bigger the cut, the more teachers each school has to let go and that means more men and women that lose their jobs and possibly their only income.  My CP has not done something individually other than going down and protesting in front of city hall with the other teachers at the school.

CP project 3

Learning about the school budget was quite shocking.  I learned that the school was given a big budget cut.  The cut caused the school to let go teachers and split classes.  For example, they school let go of a third grade teacher so my mom now has to teach both second grade and third grade.  They put the third graders in her room so there is an overflow in the classroom. People say that education is the most important trait in life so why is it that public schools aren't taking that seriously?

CP project 2

My Community Partner is Annette Martinez. She is a teacher at Capistrano Avenue Elementary.  I have actually known her for quite sometime now.  My mom is actually a teacher at Capistrano and I have been volunteering at Capistrano for years now.  But this is the first year that I am working with Annette and on the Jog-a-thon.  I got one of the biggest prizes for the event.  I got a signed Karate Gi from the cast of DisneyChannel's Kickin' It.  But until the day of the event, I would mostly be doing classroom work.

CP project 1

Trying to get a community partner is hard.  At first I wanted to work for the fire department and learn how to get the community more involved with the department.  For instance, I wanted to see if there was any way possible to make people aware that even they can learn CPR or that there are possibilities to volunteer at the station.  But after weeks of calling and emailing I never got a response from the station.  I ended up trying to work at an elementary school, but they never answered me either.  So when I went home for spring break, I worked at an elementary school involved with the LAUSD system.

Founder's Week

For Founders Week I went to the Open Mic night in SJ first.  It was so cool to hear and see the different talents of my fellow Argos.  I went with my roommates because usually there aren't a lot of people who go.  But when we got there, it seemed that we couldn't even find a seat on any of the couches.  Quinta's poem about her uncle was touching and well written.  You could really tell with every word that she spoke that she really cared about her family.

Open mic was filled with poems, music, art, and well food... People enjoyed themselves as did I,

Chapter 2

My Community Partner is the fire department.  They way they rose from a local need is because they are needed when there are fires.  They are here to serve and save the community from harm.
On May 2, 2013 there was an article released  saying:

how the federal government programs that affect the fire and emergency service are affected:
  • The U.S. Fire Administration will be cut by $2 million.
  • DHS State and Local Programs (including the FIRE and SAFER grant programs) will be cut by a total of $117 million.
  • The U.S. Forest Service’s wildland-fire management account will be cut by $125 million.
  • The U.S. Department of Interior’s wildland-fire management account will be cut by $38 million.
  • The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration's Hazardous Materials Safety Account will be cut by $2 million and the Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness Grants will be cut by $1 million.
  • Medicare will reduce reimbursements to providers by 2% starting on April 1, and there may be a delay in receiving reimbursements.
